Mexico fought off a 0-2 deficit to upset USA 3-2 in the Pan Am Team Continental Championships 2016 in Guadalajara yesterday.
The Mexicans earned their second straight 3-2 win after a remarkable come-from-behind effort. After Lino Munoz and Job Castillo had lost their singles matches to Howard Shu and Timothy Lam, Ramon Garrido pulled the Mexicans back into the tie beating Yan Tuck Chan 21-4 21-8.
Castillo and Munoz made amends in doubles with a straight games win over Kyle Emerick/Dung Truong 21-12 21-11, before Garrido returned with Andres Lopez and fashioned a 21-18 21-18 result over Vinson Chiu/Howard Shu.
The men’s event saw another close tie as Canada too came from 0-2 behind to beat Guatemala with Jason Ho-Shue (featured image) emerging the hero of the win. Ho-Shue made it 1-2 winning the third singles, before Phil Gaumond/Max Marin and Phil Charron/Jason Ho-Shue captured the two doubles to steal victory for Canada.
In the women’s team event, Canada eased past Guatemala 5-0 while USA had no problems dealing with Mexico, 4-1.
