Koceila Mammeri won yet another double at the All Africa Individual Championships – the fourth time the Algerian has accomplished the feat in the last six editions.
Mammeri – double titlist in 2019, 2021 and 2022 – achieved his fourth double with Youcef Sabri Medel in men’s doubles and Tanina Violette Mammeri in mixed doubles. The twin victories on Sunday in Cairo saw Mammeri achieve a dozen titles overall (six each in men’s doubles and mixed doubles). All six of Mammeri’s titles in men’s doubles have come with Medel, while in mixed doubles, his first two were with Linda Mazri.
Mammeri and Medel were never threatened in the final by Nigeria’s Nusa Momoh/Godwin Olofua as they completed the win in just 26 minutes, 21-12 21-8.
Koceila returned for the mixed doubles final with Tanina Violette Mammeri to take on 2020 champions Adham Hatem Elgamal/Doha Hany of Egypt. The Mammeris sealed the win at 21-23 21-16 21-11 for their fourth consecutive title.
In men’s singles, Nigeria’s Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori achieved his third straight crown – and fourth overall – beating Georges Julien Paul of Mauritius in the longest match of finals day, 23-21 11-21 21-16.
Earlier, four-time women’s singles champion Kate Foo Kune, whose last title was in 2020, won her fifth title after getting a walkover from top seed and defending champion Fadilah Shamika Mohamed Rafi of Uganda.
South Africa’s Amy Ackerman/Deidre Laurens defended their women’s doubles crown beating Uganda’s Husina Kobugabe/Gladys Mbabazi 21-11 21-15.
