The 32 teams that will do battle at the TotalEnergies BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2024 have been confirmed.
Following the five continental championships recently that served as qualifying events, the 32 qualifiers – 16 each in the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup – fell into place. The Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2024 take place from 27 April to 5 May in Chengdu, China.
While the hosts (China) and the defending champions (India in the Thomas Cup and Korea in the Uber Cup) qualify automatically, the other qualifiers make the grade on their performance in the continental championships and their World Ranking.
Each team’s ranking is the sum of the World Ranking points of its top three singles players and top two doubles pairs, as on 20 February 2024.
The four semifinalists from the Asian and European continental championships and the champions of Pan Am, Oceania and Africa qualify, with the rest of the 16 places determined by World Ranking.
If the trophy holder and/or host take part and occupy a qualifying position in their respective continental qualifying tournament, the next one or two highest ranked teams from the World Ranking from the same respective continent would also qualify. Indonesia therefore qualified for the Thomas Cup from Asia despite not making the semifinals of the qualifying event, since China had secured the host qualifying spot.
